Attention

We are currently in the process of making a batch of this model, and some of the units being produced are still available to backorder. MADE IN SHEFFIELD

These elegant, true vintage quilting scissors are ideal for quilt-making and sewing. Strong and sharp/sharp (with two pointed tips), they can cut all kinds of fabric and thread. With a lightweight design and smooth, artisan-crafted bows, the quilting scissors are a joy to use on long-term projects. They could be the scissors that help you make your masterpiece.

The quilting scissors are hand-crafted from fresh forgings. Producing these ‘blanks’ has been made possible through the refurbishment of a vintage die, which had been gathering dust for several decades. To help you take good care of the scissors for years to come, we’ll send them to you with a leather pouch, made by hand at Portland Works, Sheffield.

An intergenerational story

Making or adding to a quilt can be an act of self-expression, of artistic creation, or even of political protest. But for many quilt-makers – at least at some point – the vision is to create a treasure that can be passed from generation to generation.

Quilts have been used as bed covers since at least as early as the 13th century, which is when the word ‘quilt’ began appearing in the English language. The survival of many fine quilts from the Middle Ages is testament to their value not only as bedding, but as cherished heirlooms. Today, many quilters create special quilts to pass on to their loved ones. There are even family quilts, generations in the making, to which each new generation will add their own details.

It often starts with an idea, a message or an impression of life. Then, with needle, thread and quilting scissors, the maker takes that idea and records it in fabric for the generations to come. There’s a beauty to the image of the quilter, engaged in their work, with a mind busy with links to the past and the future.

Our craft as scissors-makers also has intergenerational stories to tell, as the skills and knowledge of past masters are taught to new generations of craftspeople. We like to think that our quilting scissors can be passed on as heirlooms, just like the quilts they’re used to make.
